This is much better than ok and the best of Scott McNutt’s maps on this site, in my opinion.

A little plain by current standards, but nice-looking and quite large. Combat is varied, which is interesting: at times you are almost completely alone, and then you suddenly find yourself attacked from all sides. This creates tension and feels realistic – but sadly, it is usually achieved by having enemies very obviously teleport in, which feels artificial (to me, at least).

3 plus; recommended.

This is definitely better than average–objectively I’d call it a 4, but I give it a 5 because this is the kind of map I really enjoy. It’s an old-school castle map with progression that’s mostly linear but doesn’t feel linear. The two secrets I found were clever. There are also at least a couple unofficial secrets that aren’t too difficult to find and spice things up.

The only drawback is what “Icantthink” mentioned-- a lot of the challenge and suspense come from enemies teleporting in near the player, which gets tedious by the end of the map.

Liked this map, felt like an lighter chapter 4 map from id maps.

couldn’t find all the secrets but wasn’t really searching for them

This is Scott McNutt’s best released quake thus far that I have played from him. Even thought the map could have used much more detail in brushwork and environmental design, it is an old school quake map that is fun to play just like id’s original quake levels. It has interesting combat scenarios and plenty of clever secrets hidden within the level for the player to discover. I also enjoyed the fact some of the guns were hidden from the player within the level and that exploration was encouraged in order to find the player’s weapons. Overall i would highly recommend playing this quake map if you enjoy playing classic styled quake maps and would give a four out of five rating.
