I rated this map a 4. Nice brushwork, theme, use of puzzles, monster placement. I found the supply of ammo and health to both be a little low, making the map quite challenging.

You’re guaranteed to die in this map. It’s brutal. It’s also excellent, especially for its age. Ambushes, traps, puzzles, tons of moving geometry …it’s a must play. Just save a lot, because you’ll need it. Even the last battles are identical on “easy.” Once you figure out a strategy, it’s doable in one go. A classic in my book.

DNF.
This is an excellent dungeon map. It’s my fault that I died to the lava bridge trap on a quicksaveless skill 2 run, but I can also criticize it for giving no warning whatsoever. The bridge could have retracted a little more slowly. Two glowing runes isn’t enough to warn of an instant death trap, not in a map that you have to slowly take your time in, a fast reaction trap like that wasn’t set up beforehand. With slightly more clever design, the map wouldn’t need the “make sure to quicksave” warning.
I also wandered around for a long time before I noticed I could shoot the button again to open the floor portal underneath the runes.
Other than that, the map up until the lava trap was great, challenging in a really good way. Good architecture for the time as well, almost id-like. I didn’t finish it, the map beat me at that trap. A shame.
