Probably the oldest map I’ve played, being released in 1997, apart from the IKSPQ series. A smaller, runic map which feels beautifully old school and well-organised. Could easily fit in as part of the original Quake game. There’s nothing new or particularly innovative here, but in the context of its time, this would have been a great map for people hungry for more Quake in its standard form.

‘Arcane’ is a relatively small Runic map that holds up very well given it’s age. The brush work is clean and at times interesting (Quake logos) albeit a bit too symmetrical.

What surprised me about ‘Arcane’ was how thought out the pacing was. There is a clear escalation with a fairly hectic finale. The map has a few fun tricks up it’s proverbial sleeve which I won’t spoil fully here (be careful of the Quad…). This, along with it’s clever secrets (zombie + nades) show that Matt Sefton put thought and care into his design.

I finished the map in 7:54 with 100% killsand secrets. I would definitely recommend ‘Arcane’ to anyone who hasn’t played it, especially if you’re after a classic style map.

Test comment please ignore

Also, this map is awesome.

Neat map, that could probably pass as an id one. It’s pretty, gameplay is fun. Only faults are difficulty a bit on the easy side and tad short.
