Solid extra âbonus levelâ for an old classic. Too bad it seems Mattâs interest didnât hold, but at least he (mostly) brewed another great map. Also qtwid.
Lives up to the name of its big daddy back from 1997. Donât expect super-detailled environments or huge areas here - that wasnât what the original Beyond Belief was all about, either. What you get is a rock-solid Quake experience with enjoyable combat and map design that doesnât confuse but simply works while still looking good. The Chthon fight at the end can either be solved directly (if you use the original BB) or indirectly (but still in a quite obvious way), so itâs nothing you have to worry about. I would have also played a whole episode with old-school quality stuff like this once again, but hey, better one good map than a bunch of âso-soâ ones, I guess. Thumbs up!

I love both the original Beyond Belief and Negkeâs maps but found this disappointing given the talent involved. Beyond Belief was a mix of different styles, but each map had a distinct look and atmosphere. This combines all the different textures, styles, etc. from the original into a single map, which makes it a jumble of different elements. At some pointsâthe cavern with the zombies, the lava-filled basementâit feels like an obstacle course. Gameplay is never bad, and no part of the map looks ugly, but I think itâs less than the sum of its parts.

I liked using the slimes to kill zombies. Nothing else really stood out, unfortunately. Enjoyable.
