It’s a bit blockier than id maps and texturing is a bit less careful, but makes up for it in gameplay. Great fun, nostalgia-inducing atmosphere to spare, and the Doom touch (quite a bit of button pushing, somewhat abstract progression) is welcome.

Lol on second level I jumped to island’s quad without secret buttons, I just used tricky jumps.

Enjoyable in that classic id way, but not, like, overly so. The powerups were a little bit of a let-down. There are a lot of them in every level, but their placement often doesn’t make sense to me. For instance, you get a pentagram and then there are no big fights, a quad and then no nearby enemies, stuff like that. Maybe they make more sense on nightmare (I always just play on Normal).

But everything is functional and fun, I like the overall level design (although there are some useless shortcuts and things). Would give it 3 stars, but adding an extra for the Shambler fake-out in Shambler’s Den, which tickled me to no end. Honestly very funny and clever.
