I hate everything about the mess we are doing now, repacking things to make the injector happy or the “zip files only” or the “script is too dumb to read different zip dialect” rules. It opposes my archivist motivation and I don’t want to continue doing that. It’s exactly the terrible mess I wanted to fix in the early days.
We need a new, actively maintained Injector that supports whatever nonsense people do with their releases, including conflict handling. PKGBUILDs might be a nice blueprint, or megaman’s gpm. And we need a review system that supports all kinds of files, distinguished via tags, supporting “main” entries for mods that get updated over time.
Mind you, it was about the newest releases I mailed you about.
I see where you’re coming from and, indeed, we’re not obliged to make every release work in the injector no matter what. Some of the recent conflicting ones have a note in the description “does not work with Quake Injector”. But at least the files should be uploaded so we can try to add them to the DB if the script allows regardless of the ‘standards’ question.
The system is a mess, but a complete and robust rebuild of the site and the injector seems unlikely since neither of us has the time or skill, and it doesn’t seem like there’s any reliable/trustworthy outside help avaiable.
I was going to post a sticky thread in this forum on how to release a map (with links to the wiki page and dumptruck’s video) and/or post submissions directly.
I agree! But I haven’t visited that site for ages and I don’t plan to ever do it again. Unless that community has finally gotten a hold of its trolls and harassers?
I have removed one inflammatory trolling post by onetruepurple above, if someone wants to know the contents, just mail me. Consequently I can not take their word for what to add to the archive. If someone trustworthy goes through the links and verifies they are what they are supposed to be, instant upload. Two of them are on bad file hosts though.
dumbtruck_ds: No, that would just make things even more messy. The archive is an unsalvageable mess. We need to move on to a system where it does not matter how someone named or packaged a file. Things should never have been renamed or repackaged. I would love to work on a archive for all kinds of files (maps, mods, engines). In Python. With IPFS or something similar. Dropping the existing server-side file introspection. Dropping the existing ugly Injector stuff. Git for metadata. ETC! It would allow to drastically remove my annoying grip. Trolls like above do a fine job of killing my motivation regularly though.
FFS, The links are all legit as they are from the release threads I posted! What else do you need to make this happen…? Dumptruck’s question is not too far off, because it’s been a hassle to get stuff on Quaddicted for a while and I admit I’m getting tired of this situation since even I can’t do anything if the files aren’t uploaded - it’s doing a fine job of killing MY motivation. Like I said in the other thread, if mappers are incapable of following basic release pricinples, it’s their business and we don’t have to maintain QI compatibility at all costs. But at least the database entries will be there for people to see and download.
I would like an explanation as to why my question about Quaddicted regulars bullying others for difference in opinion was deleted as “inflammatory trolling post”.

This Box is in the https://www.quaddicted.com/filebase/this_box.zip, but it can’t be added to the DB, because it was zipped with some obscure tool or format that can’t be read by the script. Same issue that prevented the original Jam8 zip and the Shamblernaut zips from being added.
