Pretty good. Time: 29:02
Can anyone help me figure out how to install and play this? So im playing quake through quakespasm; c/quake. Not through steam. I do have arcane dimensions, folder ad. So do i create a folder inside ad called dhsp1 and unzip all of this stuff therein? Do i create a mods folder inside ad folder then unzip all of this stuff into that folder, or a dhsp1 folder inside mods, inside ad. So after that how do i launch this map. Im having a hard time playing anything based off ad. Think im installing it all wrong or something.
Just extract the contents of Industrial Dreams zip directly into your AD base folder. If you have a default installation of AD v1.8, you’ll end up with something like this:
AD
|-maps
|-music
|-progs
|-screenshots
|-source
Start quakespasm. On the console:
- Change to AD with “game ad” (assuming your base folder is named ad)
- Select difficulty with “skill 0-3” (0 easy, 1 normal, 2 hard, 3 nightmare)
- Start the map with “map ad_dhsp1”
When I try to run this, my engine crashes saying:
QUAKE ERROR: Bad surface extents
This is with QuakeSpasm 0.93.2.
… but an upgrade to QuakeSpasm v0.96.3 fixed it. I’m enjoying this now I’ve got started. Further bulletins as events warrant.
Well, I’m glad I persisted with this: once I got an updated engine installed, the map was excellent. Good progression, lots of novel combat situations, inventive multi-section secrets — and of that beautifully brutal Arcane Dimensions quality. I really wish I could award 4.5 stars. But since I need to preserve some daylight between the very very best maps and the rest, this gets a slightly unfair four, really just due to it being only about a quarter the size of (for example) Foggy Bogbottom or Leptis Magna.
And what a great debut! I will be very keen see what DetroHogga does next1
Just use Quake Injector to install. it does it all for you
Also I just tried ironwail rather than quakespasm, a worthy upgrade I think and less prone to errors
I know I successfully played this map a few months ago (99.99% sure i used quakespasm) but today when I tried again with QS 0.95.1 and 0.96.3 I get this weird graphics glitch where I spawn in the void, all(?) enities are black and the map is down to the right. Looks like @MikeTaylor was able to play the map a few months ago with QS 0.96.3 so I’m not sure what’s going on here. Any ideas? I tried reinstalling the map but no change. Plays fine with Ironwail.
Same problem here. I’m not sure what’s going on.
For a some reason autor decided to build a map only sv_protocol 999 compatible, while QS runs at sv_protocol 666 by default. Hence, You should run QS with parameter +sv_protocol 999 in command line or simply type in the console: (w/o +)
sv_protocol 999
It should help.
Thanks! Yep, that fixed the issue.
Very well made map!
I can’t really find anything to moan about (and that happens to be a core competence of mine).
I don’t know if it is possible, but it would be nice if the hint about sv_protocol 999 would be in the ‘readme’ file. 999 is pretty unusual.
Very well made. I’m looking forward to the next map from this author!
Thanks for sharing, and thanks for all Your work!
