Some really nice levels and a lot of hard work are severely let down by too many unfair encounters. I played on skill 2. You’ll barely scrape through a long battle/trap only to walk in to the next area and find yourself in a small room with a spawn, or a rapid-fire turret trap. To add to the frustration, many of the battles occur in areas with poorly thought out geometry that will catch the player out whilst strafing or back-pedalling. In short, most of the encounters seem designed to annoy the player instead of challenge them. Often, survival is predicated on either dumb luck, or trial and error.

Reading the comments this is a hard pass for me, especially when it seems this is some sort of horde mapset. I’ll never, ever understand the appeal of these horde/slaughter maps, even a few Blood maps have become infested by this inexplicable desire of some mappers to load a map with hundreds and hundreds of enemies. None of the old classics we all know and love were like this.

Challenging episode with a lot of traps, intense combat, original mechanics, interesting secrets, gloomy soundtracks and (what I really like about Quake) surreal atmosphere.
But I don’t think that this episode feels like The Elder World. As mentioned above, this maps give different vibe. Traps are overused, especially in the Tower of Destiny.
Played on Hard, found more than a half of the secrets.

I just made an account to say these maps are truly authentic new Quake levels in 2023! Best maps since Armagon imo.

Wow,this is FANTASTIC and challenging,i loved everything about it,the overall level design, atmosphere, traps, enemy encounters, headwalls shooting all kinds of things,non-usual ways to progress trough the levels & fighting enemies and new musics, sometimes I stopped playing just to contemplate these beautiful places.

The difficulty balance can be random sometimes, lack of ammo and/or a lot of strong enemies at the same time, this can be harsh,we all know that finding a good balance is hard while creating a level,so i don’t want to be too critical about this,it didn’t ruined my experience at all,you just find a way to be stronger than the game with what you have in your hands, some people will give up just because of that but not me.

My respects to the creators of Spiritworld, they should be hired by Id Software if they ever decide to do a Quake 1 Remake-Reboot,because they will need their touch.

I haven’t played a lot of Quake add-ons but i can already say that Spiritworld is one of the best add-on ever(Top 3 easily),this is how modern Quake 1 levels should be created IMO.

This is a hell of work and a must play, you will love the smart, surprising and original level design, instant classic to me,i rate 4/5.

Favorites Levels :

Elderly Offspring (I liked the atmosphere)

Liquid Lobotomy (I loved this one from the beginning to the end,one of the best level i have ever played,it wasn’t short i know, but i wished it was a bit longer)

Path Of The WoodWose (I loved this one from the beginning to the end,one of the best level i have ever played AGAIN)

Diyu (MASTERPIECE,nothing more to say about it)

Tower Of Destiny (A frustrating, hard and fun level,i died a lot haha, one of the hardest level i’ve ever played)

The Final Boss is hard and i liked that too !

Genuinely amazing. I have never seen such levels of trickery and deviousness in Quake maps before.

One of my absolute favourite map-packs and one of my first mods played. Brilliant environmental design, tough but doable gameplay; I have to say, however, I wasn’t a fan of the final boss. Other than that I’d be giving this pack a 5/5 solely for Diyu alone. Top marks.
