Not as good as starship and quite a lot more finicky to complete, but a decent sequel nonetheless.

Pity the scrags were not replaced by some other more sci-fi-esque creature (although if you can ignore their Quake pedigree, I suppose they do look appropriate).

Starship 2 on The Quake Grave

I recently played the first Starship map, which is pretty damn good, so I decided to jump into this one and see how the story continues. I think the map has some amazing pieces to it but overall, I think they’re very much overshadowed by the finickiness (as Icantthinkofanickname mentioned) of some of the level.

All of it works fine, until 3 spots for me. One was the ice block at the beginning. I didn’t figure out how to use that until my second playthrough which isn’t in the video.

Second, There is the button stuff at the very end that I am not a big fan of. Jumping around to each button in these different areas felt some what tacked on to me.

Then last there is the flying machine that I could never get to work, even on further playthroughs with a different engine. Or is that even how you reach the building to get in? Can this thing even be unlocked?

The level is worth checking out to see all of the great custom stuff created for it (the rocket launch is amazing!) but the other things listed above really sort of ruined the experience for me.

Mechanisms are annoying, but lots of originality. The ice/water textures look very good against the alien emerald sky, but the rock/metal textures are very repetitive. The shambler foreshadowing was very cool (no pun intended). The dead zombie fish coming alive was very surprising and added some real charm. There was a bit and back and forth, where it wasn’t always clear where to go, and only the left door on the base at the end operates, which was rather confusing. The ice hole isn’t big enough to fall in without forcing through, which might confuse some players. The flying mechanism was rather awesome, and I only wished that I could fly it independently. 3/5, good effort.
