Very well made Total Conversion!
I lack knowledge of the original game to properly estimate the mood, but all the rest is really good.
The new monsters are well-made, and not ‘over-the-top’. Music more like from a side-scroller or arcade game, but i guess this matches the original?
What takes the price is the excellent mapping. Very good industrial/cityscapes, with a lot of detail, good secrets, and mostly good monster placement (there are some too obvious beam-in monsters here and there).
This is a enjoyable experience.
Thanks for the enormous amount of work, and thanks for sharing!
This is extremely impressive. In general I don’t like conversions, preferring expansions like AD or Alkaline that let me use my existing knowledge of what’s what in Quaker. But this one is done so well that it ended up being fun learning the new weapons and (to some extent) the new monsters. I especially like the rail gun.
I have two main criticisms.
First, that several of the new monsters look very much alike, with dark blue-grey skin, and I never did quite get it clear in my head who was who and how much firepower they’d each need to take down. A bit of recolouring would probably take care of this.
Second, I felt that the weapons were introduced too quickly, so I’d just be figuring out the affordances of a newly discovered gun when I’d immediately run into another. I think the original Quake Episode 1 is masterly at this, just gradually introducing them one by one and inviting you to really learn each one.
Anyway, this is outstanding and creative work, and despite my caveats it would be wrong to award less than the full five stars.
