It’s a pretty good conversion. I had quite a bit of fun gibbing large hordes of knights and death knights here! >:D I think MAP04 was converted a little bit better than this, though, with better balancing, for one. There’s just too much health, armor and invulnerability powerups on offer here. I think they could’ve been toned down a bit on the harder difficulties, like in the original there was only one invulnerability powerup in the Cyberdemon room in ultra violence. In this map there are three in hard.

Then there were some other choices I would’ve executed differently myself, like having the ‘cacodemon’ spawns jump out of their pens with a monster jump trigger. I might’ve also replaced the dogs in the imp room with grunts, too.

Still, I think it’s worth checking out, if you’re interested to see how the original map could play out in Quake style.

Fun. Doom II was the first ID game I ever played (I somehow missed the original Doom) and I remember loving this map when I reached it. It’s too long ago, though, for me to have any real sense of how faithful a recreation this one is. Shame that the gold-key area is such an anticlimax.

Faithful recreation of Doom II Map08. But it’s not really a fun Quake map, to be honest.
