The fourth map (the one that starts with the collapsing ground) is the only real keeper imo - that’s a really great map. The rest are of patchy quality - the gameplay and layout of these is generally up to id1 standard, but nothing to write home about.

(It’s worth noting that the updated version available for the new Steam version of Quake also adds another actually great one - “Witchhouse Mixtape”, plus a new finale map - “Sentinel Rave” which is just about the lamest piece of crap I’ve ever seen from czg, which is a real shame.)

It’s fun reading my old comments and seeing how my views have changed. In this case, while Terra isn’t an architectural tour-de-force like Insomnia or Honey, taken as an “old school” map pack it’s held up very well under multiple playthroughs, even if it isn’t the most polished or consistent. I like that its combat scenarios pack a Doom II-ish punch without straying from the small-scale intimacy of classic Quake map design. I now give this a 5/5.

Not bad, but few traps were a bit over the top in my opinion.

Playthrough:

Just finished Terra and that was an awesome game! Great level designs. Played some of it using vkQuake-RT (Ray Traced) BEAUTIFUL!. It crashed going into the Rave but 333 monsters?! A lot of saves in that one HAHA. The episodes before it could have been relased as original Quake! Just loved it!

Pretty good. I enjoyed the earlier techbase themed maps a bit more than the later ones. Maps are small enough in scope and "vanilla" that they feel in line with something like Beyond Belief as levels from the 90s (in a good way).
