“Undiscovered Technology of the Pharaohs” is a large, difficult map that is packed with secrets and traps and promotes diversity and inclusion by featuring nearly every monster in the book. Seeing as that book features the Alkaline chapter, you’re in for a scary treat.
Most of the secrets are rewarding, in that they lead you to explore whole new areas of the map, and are not too difficult to find once you’ve identified the patterns (although the one where you get to use the Gold Key was tricky).
I played this right after Starslave, which set me in the mood again for more Egypt-themed maps. Both maps are built around the same theme (Egypt / tech) and brilliantly crafted, but in a way this one is nastier (although I played it in Nightmare mode, and I imagine Starslave with that difficulty setting would be far above my skills). I never thought I’d be scared by mere grunts, and yet…
By the way, this map has the craziest and most ambitious selection of Nightmare mode I have ever seen.
I’m extremely frustrated to be missing one kill and one serpent dagger. And five secrets too. Hopefully I can clear this soon and move on to the next map.
Wonderful job zigi!
Nice 3-map pack: skill selection, the good stuff and a hm-hm Boss fight…
Absolutely wonderful brushwork! Good lighting and monster placement, lotsa secrets for the explorer, and a remarkable imagination that thought it all out!
Well done Zigi! Sir, i salute You!
Thanks for all Your work, and thanks for sharing!
…I need to go and find the last 3 secrets…
A truly unique pack, this. The start map contains a long, complex and enjoyable quest to find the Nightmare difficulty circuit board, and is worth playing even on its own. The main map is big, sprawling, and filled with well calibrated combat challenges. all with a distinctive Alien Egyptian aesthetic. (I will come back to comment again when I've played the final map, but that looks like it's going to a big fight, and I rarely love those.)
On the main map, I got to 312 of 313 kills, infuriatingly. I found 19 of 23 secrets, but only after noclipping around to find the last three serpent dagger things that I needed to access the bonus challenge.
Outstanding, and well worth the full five stars.
