Fun map.
Note in the open area near the beginning you can climb the brick architrave-like walls next to the “opens elsewhere…” locked dungeon - then jump up and run straight to the exit slipgate, for a <1 minute finish.
Very solid work! Fun and entertaining. Liked the monster placement, many good surprises. Felt a bit too easy sometimes, maybe some powerup + larger horde would add even more fun.
My kind of map! Amazing architecture, consistent detail and excellent brush-work. One of the few maps I have played several times. Great work, and thanks!
Very immersive map. I liked how this city was build, all the tight spaces and their terrors. Five stars!
Vondur’s been mapping for at least 26 years (see 1999’s Solarfall), so it’s hardly surprising his skills are top notch. Of course Vondur went on to create classics including Koohoo and Adamantine Cruelty. It’s a pleasure to see a new contribution from a classic mapper.
Spires packs in all the brutality and exploration that we love to see, with some nice secrets too. (I missed one of them.) I’d score it with the full five stars, except that the best modern maps sustain this level across much larger playing areas, and Spires is just a bit small by contemporary standards. Really good stuff, though!
