Solid start. My recommendation is more monsters, attacking at the same time from different sides, more ammo (had no shells for majority of the map), add some finer details.

I wasn’t entirely successful, but the intent was always to have this work under the original software renderer. This map pushes the surface limits in most areas and is over budget in others. More detail would have worsened those problems. My final 2 weeks working on this map were mostly spent pruning detail, to satisfy the original renderer.

This feels very old-school, which is both good and bad. The nostalgia is always welcome, but this map feels badly underpopulated both with monsters and with ammo in way that also recalls ID, in a less positive way. There’s some nice architecture and some re-use of areas, but it feels off to give us the silver key before we’ve reached the silver door. And too many of the combats were easy to handle with sniping tactics.

The big thing is the underpopulation, though. Just triple the number of monsters and the ammo supplies, and the map would be significantly better.

Sorry this wasn’t to your liking, Mike. Thanks for playing and providing feedback. I’ve done a couple of passes on Colony 4 (which is nearing completion) with those points in mind and I think the map is in a better place because of it. It’s still very much old-school, because that’s my jam, but hopefully it’ll be better received for the variety of combat encounters and ammo balancing.
