Well constructed base map that mirrors in design to e1m1 the Slipgate complex. I would highly recommend playing this map if you like to play quake base style maps. I would give this map a four out of five rating.

It’s not fun or rewarding to stand at a safe distance shooting four impotent fiends in cages in order to progress. This is as true today as it was in 1997.
Had I made this map in 1997 I would have been very proud and the author should be commended for its largely decent build quality at a time when we didn’t have access to the same robust tools, tutorials and knowledge that would follow, but it’s pointless to reflect these factors when rating the map 20 years later.

Solid map for it’s day but there are a few annoyances when looking at it from a contemporary perspective. That being said, the issues aren’t overwhelming and I personally found the enjoyment I get from playing old maps easily outweighed the downsides (shooting fiends in cages, reliance on low tier enemies, lack of weapon variety etc). I found the gold key cave especially charming.
