Catalog of All Quake Addon CDs

Hi, I’ve built a catalog of all known Quake addon CDs:

At current count, the catalog includes 61 CDs and 146,789 files.

  • Each CD has its own page with publisher/year/content details and tree list of all files on the CD (including all files within .zip, .exe, .pak, .arj, etc. archives).
  • No hosting or linking to ISOs (don’t want to get a takedown notice).
  • The site is programmatically generated using a Python script and a static site generator (hugo).

I’m finding the catalog useful for quickly checking for rare releases.

Let me know if it’s useful to you and if you have ideas on how to make it more so.

I’ve just found a cache of Russian Quake shovelware which I’ll be adding next week, so expect updates.

Any chance you could add checksums of the files for easy identification? I wrote a script for quakewiki.org once that creates a nice wiki table for all files in a directory: https://quakewiki.org/wiki/User:Spirit#Recursive_file_list_creator_script:_files2mediawiki.sh

See e.g. on https://quakewiki.org/wiki/pak1.pak

(Of course this would fit fantastically on quakewiki.org if you want :wink: )

Great suggestion @Spirit. Done.

Happy for the tables to be scraped/used elsewhere, like the wiki, with attrib link. Not sure I want that task, but happy to output something to help.

Changelog:

  • Replaced file trees with file tables.
  • Standardized the size of all images
  • Purchased domain name: https://QuakeDiscs.com (old domain will still work)
  • Added yellow warning for CDs that don’t have files.
  • Added CDs with alt versions (e.g. v1/v2, USA/Europe, 1st edition/2nd edition, etc.)
  • Added some Russian shovelware CDs, more to come I suspect.

Up to 68 confirmed CDs, still a few CD covers and many ISOs missing…

I may put an sqlite db of the files somewhere.

Updated.

153,761 Quake files, 76 Quake Addon CDs

  • Added a bunch more CDs.
  • Added all known links for each CD (evidence of existence, help for those that follow in the years to come)
  • Added Creative Commons licence in footer (so anyone can reuse the content)

What’s the upper limit on these discs? 100? 150? :slight_smile:

There are 171,143 Quake files across 80 Quake Addon CDs.

Changelog:

  • Added more CDs and tons more files.
  • Deleted a CD that was a bad fit (pure anthology, no maps/mods/etc)
  • Added file search: https://QuakeDiscs.com/search/

Took some serious JS hacking to get file search to work well+fast (I’m more a backend guy). Happy with the result.

Lots of great files, I was able to update the quake bot archive and team fortress quake archive with rare releases found on these discs. Yay!
