This piqued my interest because it’s the only 1996 map, as of my writing this, that doesn’t have any comments.

I think it’s better than the average rating suggests. The layout and architecture are enjoyably surreal–it feels like a large, multi-story commercial building (some kind of warehouse?) that was abandoned long ago and has become infested with Quake monsters.

There are a few flaws in the gameplay–most notably, there are a couple large rooms in which the player can attack enemies in one part of the room without enemies in the rest of the room noticing. Also, all four secrets have the same visual cue, although there’s one unofficial secret that’s totally different.

That unofficial secret is a shortcut to the map’s final room, so there are two distinct routes the player can take to the exit.

Gameplay-wise this isn’t a half-bad map. The architecture was consistent, as stated in the readme, but it was consistently boring and could get you lost pretty easily.

Then at one point you end up in a maze, which isn’t that bad, since you can ease navigation with a simple trick, but after I pressed a button in the maze, I didn’t know what I was supposed to do after that, which was a little frustrating.

I must have missed part of the map, as I never saw the maze Esrael mentions. It was an interesting map nonetheless, even if it was a little boring architecturally.

HOKAY. SO… there is a shortcut under the stairs of the lowest level; looks like a pool of the green nasty water, but it’s actually a straight drop to the under-level (with the zombies, ogres, and shamblers) which is where the exit is located. First time through I found the shortcut, so I never made it to the top-level maze. I went back through again and found the “right” way to get to the final level. Weird.

A building with multiple floors that look and feel the same. Topped off with a maze that you can, luckily, bypass.
Not satisfying gameplay.
