Four hours? How is that even possible? This might not be the best map ever, nor digs’s best (not that anyone would expect that for something created in such a short timespan), but it’s really, really decent.

Brushwork, lighting and texturing all look amazingly polished. Gameplay – though a little on the tough side – is well-designed and engaging. Progression is fairly linear, but by no means hackneyed or predictable, and there are plenty of little touches of weirdness throughout that clearly mark this as a digs map.

Really the only giveaways that this is not a full release are the absence of secrets and skill settings/balancing, and the fact that the map has no proper title. Plus, keeping in mind that this is a digs map, it does not have the usual level of detailing one has come to expect from this author.

It’s a really enjoyable challenge, though. Certainly recommended – as more than just a curiosity.

Four hours? That is ridiculous. I just love the profligacy with which Digs throws away neat ideas on a map like this one – such as what happens when you open the gold-key door. Such creativity.

Only one quibble, really: please, mappers, give your maps titles. It must take all of twenty seconds to do, and it makes saved games so much easier to find. Thanks!

Is the map great? A classic? No. But I think this map, made in response to the recent discussion on speedmapping, really shows off the skill that digs has. Regardless of the lack of time put into it, which prevents attention to nuance, decoration and more complexities, this map easily fits in and rivals many maps from the 96-97 era of mapping and it took probably one evening to create. I find that to be pretty impressive.

Very nicely done in the short amount of time spent. All the fillings of a standard short Quake map are present here. Worth a play just to see the principle in action.

A solid 4 star map; only a real master of the art could do it in 4 hours. Nice!
