Fabian Sanglard is posting about Quake

Fabian Sanglard, author of the fantastic Game Engine Black Books on Wolfenstein 3D and Doom and a nice review into QuakeWorld's source code has posted some nice articles on Quake recently:

First https://fabiensanglard.net/quake_chunnel/ about Quake's TCP/IP history. And now https://fabiensanglard.net/quake_indicators/ about the "indicators" (like the Turtle icon) that Quake shows when unhappy.

Could those be hints at an upcoming Quake book? I hope!

I e-mailed Fabian specifically about a Quake book, after reading the Doom and Wolfenstein 3D books. At that time, probably 3 years ago now, he said there were no such plans. He suggested that this would be too daunting a task. I’m hoping he changed his mind.

If this sort of detail appeals, you can find more of it from Michael Abrash in his Graphics Programming Black Book. This YouTube channel also posts regular insight into Quake’s graphics pipeline and level building tools: Matt's Ramblings

He should frequent the boards, quaddicted and func_msgboard. Or at least mention the communities on his posts. Would be extremely beneficial.
