In addition, https://www.speedrun.com/ has recently added a new feature: world records history of a particular game. To see Quake 1’s greatest speedrunning achievements in a certain category, simply select it and click on the ‘History’ button.
Thought it would be a good idea to transform this topic to the one dedicated to all the major new world records in Quake, rather than just several records. Therefore, I’d like to bring some older records that have been broken since the day this thread was started, and this is with the notification of a newer one.
On the 2023.04.09 Fundeeraaja, previously known as MarioFan7464, established the new world record for Quake 64 in Quake Enhanced in the category Any% Easy with the KB+M input. The run is done in 14:19.68 RTA, which is about a 32 second improvement over the previous record by Kaktus313.
On the 2023.05.14 @kukkye established the new world record for the episode 1: Dimension of the Doomed, in the category Nightmare Run. The run is done in 2:37.62 IGT, which is a 5 hundredth of a second improvement over the previous record by Elgu.
On the 2023.04.10 @Muty broke his own world record for the episode 2: The Realm of Black Magic, in the category Nightmare 100%, making it 14:26, which is a 42 second improvement over the previous record. The record is already former now.
Yesterday, on the 2023.08.01, Muty broke his own world record for the episode 2: The Realm of Black Magic, in the category Nightmare 100%, making it 13:46, which is a 40 second improvement over the previous record!
That plus you caused Spirit to disallow normal people to submit news, therefore you can’t. (My speculation only, I don’t read minds, who knows why Spirit disallowed normal people like me to post news … oh yeah, this guy’s spam).
I am all for speedrunning.
But being classy means not spamming Quake communities. Do you know what game you guys are speedrunning?
Yeah, it’s fucking Quake. Spam Reddit. Spam corporate sites. Don’t spam the Quake community. That’s disrepectful and being a dick.
No, absolutely false. Don’t post when drunk and angry, Baker
News submissions via the forums were always like this to have some moderation in front of the news feed.
This thread is fantastic and I am highly thankful to Geniraul foe updating it! If news frequency was higher and more diverse it would be awesome to get a new post for every new development in speedrunning even. Please keep us updated!
This is absolutely not spam. What makes you feel like it is?
Thank you for the support, Spirit, I highly appreciate it! I’m usually occupied with a lot of things, but I will try to do my best to keep people updated!
Very confident of you to say so.
oh yeah, this guy’s spam
<…>
Don’t spam the Quake community.
I post news about Quake 1 speedrunning on the forum of the largest website dedicated to Quake 1. How exactly is this ‘spam’ to you?
I usually take a good amount of time to go through every major category of each main-line game of both Quake and Doom series on speedrun.com and publish the news about the related world records on the appropriate forums and my Telegram channel once per week. I publish speedrun news regarding world records on two other forums and so far this hasn’t been pointed out as something inappropriate by any member of the moderation team or administrator. If Spirit or a moderator asks me to stop posting in this thread, it’s probable that I’ll immediately do so, but otherwise I don’t see any reason to not post here, and as you can see, Spirit does find this thread useful.
When it comes to Quake, I go through every major category of the full game and each its episode for both the main campaign and the two mission packs, at that this applies to both the vanilla and the remastered version.
From what I could see, you saw my thread about new world records in Q3 on another forum (you know which one), and you didn’t seem to express any disagreement with the posts on that topic or call it ‘spam’. Just like I mentioned earlier, the world records are being brought and broken here, and the history of speedrunning is being made. This is about real accomplishments, some runners literally practice in thousands of attempts before finally achieving the so-desired goal, after weeks or sometimes even months and months of practice. Futhermore, the history never repeates itself, but keeps being with us for very long time thanks to the archiving — the leaderboards and some of the demos stay and can always be found. For instance, even today we can look at the leaderboard of Quake’s mission pack Dissolution of Eternity for the category Easy Run and find out that Tim Doherty’s https://www.speedrun.com/doe?h=Easy_Run&x=z277j142 is still present 22 (!) years later.
I wouldn’t say that based on your first post in this thread.
So far I myself don’t speedrun any game at all, what I do is that I look for new world records and submit them here with some basic info and formatting for better visibility.
I don’t even have a Reddit account at this point, but anyway neither of these two advises make sense. In addition, I am well aware of what I can and cannot do, and therefore do not need any third-person guidance on the subject.
I do not.
This message is solely my own opinion.
<…>
Please note that I went out of my way to clarify this was my opinion only
This is not how you express an opinion in public space. If you would like to give some criticism, make sure that it’s constructive, otherwise it’s better to keep silence.
This is exactly what I think your first post in this thread is (if you correct the typo).
Consciously insulting someone on a forum thread because of personal feelings related to some off-topic things, in my opinion, is certainly one of the things that the “News” subforum needs the least.
On the 2023.08.02 Cinnabar_r established the new world record for Dimension of the Machine in Quake Enhanced in the category Any% Easy with the KB+M input. The run is done in 26:55.05 RTA, and this is the very first run in this combination of categories.
On the 2023.08.05 [RU] CloudEr established the new world record for the episode 3: The Netherworld, in the category Easy Run. The run is done in 2:27.995 IGT, which is 52 hundredths of a second improvement over the previous record by Muty.
Yesterday, on the 2023.08.14, @Muty broke his own world record for the episode 1: Dimension of the Doomed, in the category Nightmare 100%, making it 9:53, which is a 17 second improvement over the previous record!
Today, on the 2023.08.18, @Muty broke his own world record for the episode 4: The Elder World, in the Nightmare 100% category, making it 18:52 IGT, which is a 54 second improvement over the previous record!
I’ve updated all my posts in this thread where necessary so that the older formatting and leaderboard links are correctly interpreted. Well, looks like it’s time for me to do my first post with the new forum interface
