Well I got to be honest it’s Doom 64 inspired as well (I’m a fan of Aubrey Hodges’ work in general), but I have seen a few posts about custom and alternative soundtracks for Quake. So I thought I would put my hat in for any fans or modders who want to use my music; it’s free for anyone to use. Also I can compose custom tracks or help covert my existing ones of mine to .ogg (I think soundcloud/bandcamp may already do it) for those who use them. If you decide to put it in a map, let me know so I can play it! Here you go:

Just listened to the first song in the playlist (Zwokstemneoght Ïphistiawaefiúnk), and I got chills in my back; creepy stuff! D: I could definitely envision this song to be in a Quake map. The title also brings into my mind vikings, Norse and the RUNES that they used in their writing. You know, runes ~ runic maps in Quake.
Oh ya, definitely with the umlaut it gives the feel of a northern European origin! From what I remember you get a rune when you beat Chthon in Quake and Quake 64, and that level happens (on the Quake 64 version) to have my favorite track of the game.

It’s odd that the track you mentioned is played in Newhouse’s map. IIRC, it was composed by dumptruck_ds and was used in his own map.

Thanks! By guttural sounds, I suppose you mean the looped growl? As a matter of fact, it’s a 44kHz version of Quake’s ogre growl, slowed down.
I took a moment to listen to your Bandcamp. I dig what you do. Definitely quakey. I’ll probably use some of your stuff to put together some custom soundtracks. Did you really do all this with just a synth? No found sounds, no field recordings?

Be sure to check my recommendations: I have a couple remixes released on the Byzant@Sunset albums. The No Reason remix is one of the most disturbing tracks I’ve ever made. The other one is very Ministryesque.
Indeed it all comes from a synthesizer which I programmed, no recordings or pre-sampled audio files. Listening to Aubrey Hodges’ work he did a lot of pitch shifting and parameter adjusting, so I was thinking about adding some noise (brownian) into the process. I couldn’t find a simple way to do it with the software I was using, but since I have had some experience in programming and data processing I believed I could do it myself. Over three months of work and testing and I finally got something I was happy with.
I still update my synthesizer and add more effects. Because of that it can be way too many parameters to adjust especially since I allow low frequency oscillators and noise modulation on each parameter. So what I do, is I randomize the settings and have it spit out wave files. I set my program to do it over night and the next day I take the parameters for the sounds I like. I work with those and that’s what you hear on the albums.
In a way getting my computer do some of the work corrupts the essence of humanity in music. But since I have my hand in it as well it corrupts the purity of only having a computer do it as well. The perversion of mankind and technology is a theme in ID’s Doom and Quake games, so in a way I think the process in which I put these albums together is fitting for that.
The micro-looped (is this a term?) human vocal “No Reason” is definitely is disturbing and reminds me of the perversion of mankind and technlogy I was talking about! Great tension building in the track over all. It would be an honor to be included in custom soundtracks.
I have uploaded another soundtrack entitled “Vestigial Processes” which is a little more noisy than the Quake 64 soundtrack but definitely less noisy than the Quake 1 soundtrack. Its somewhere in between and free to download as always! Enjoy!
