It used to be so good. There haven’t been any new maps since last September. The new rating system is broken. The Quake Injector is broken. The new forum is weird and confusing. What’s happened? Are people now getting their Quake fix elsewhere?
This is not a demand. Having an awesome Quake tribute site is not a constitutional right. I’m just yearning for the good old times of this site and wondering what changed.
Quaddicted is getting an overhaul obviously. It’s taking some time. Not everything will be to everyone’s liking but a handful of people are doing this for free, in their spare time and it’s a massive undertaking under the hood. If you poke around the new forum, there are some really nice features. Yeah it’s confusing at first and feels disorganized but it’s better in many ways.
Map and mod submissions will be more powerful when the changes are completed. Just stay tuned and more importantly stay open minded.
As far as other places. There’s another site that’s quite popular but I deleted my account when some of the moderators there attacked Spirit and then deleted posts defending him that were well within the posted rules. So they are clearly committed to a specific point of view there and if you don’t share it they will happily delete posts.
Who needs that bullshit? It’s a great resource but ruined by some bad apples.
Events happened that lead to psychological distress but also lead to developments of a new DB system. Slowly and steadily.
Positive or constructive feedback makes me happy to work on it. Complaints and negativity do the opposite. There is lots to do (e.g. How should a new frontpage look like?) and contributions always give a huge boost in productivity.
I invited you @Jugador to a beta test back in January already! But maybe the chat system is too confusing too, sorry about that… I’ll add you to the beta testing forum group, hopefully that is easier. Then you can check out the new features already.
The new DB already has all the new releases imported. The new forum is, well, a modern fancy-shmancy forum. I am not 100% happy with it, but it allowed me to handle user accounts and authentication AND comments and ratings without having to write bad code myself, so there was no way around it.
I totally agree that the new way of adding ratings is not very convenient or intuitive. It is possible to re-create the UX of the old site but I lack the time. If someone wants to help, it would be awesome. The task would be to add/update a Discourse post (=comment + rating) via the API and having a nice frontend for it. And/or make https://github.com/paviliondev/discourse-ratings better.
I hope! Had zero time to work on more things recently so I am not sure.
I want to have at least a rudimentary new frontpage but that should be doable in a day or two. The rest will probably be as it is right now in the beta test.
Less fanfare than I hoped for, but at least people could see and discuss the new releases.
