Nice and unique, even if silly at times. Combat is average, but new weapons and enemies make up for it.

Playthrough:

Despite the introduction of some new custom weapons and enemies this map felt a little uninspired to me. A lot of the enemies feel like bullet-sponges, especially those leaping knights that hurl rocks at you, and I’m pretty sure they reused an enemy from that weird X-Men mod that came out way back when which doesn’t fit with the theme of the map pack at all.

The “Shambler-Viles” could’ve been done a lot better considering they’re one of the mini-boss enemies. I definitely see what the idea was but in execution they’re frustrating to fight; their fire attack gives you almost no time to react to it. Even worse is you can effectively get comboed to death by that attack, as the blast launches you in the air and can trigger the AI to do the same attack over and over. Bearing in mind I play all maps on nightmare, so it may just be the enemy not being designed for the difficulty setting, but either way they weren’t fun to fight at all; that last level’s arena encounter with the Wraith and Shambler-Vile was annoying to say the least.

Apart from the previously mentioned enemies however, I enjoyed the custom roster encountered in this map. The variety of ogres and knights breathe a lot of life into the map, albeit some are reskins, and those pesky little Fiendlings are a cute addition.

The new weapons are pretty cool too: A lighting gun that shoots flames, a super-nailgun reskin called the “Freeze Gun” that freezes enemies after prolonged shooting allowing you to one-shot them with a shotgun blast, a nailgun reskin called the “Flame Launcher” that kinda sucks ass but regenerates ammo, and a cool “Positron Beam” that… crashes your game. 2/4 is better than nothing I suppose.

Overall a nice little map pack I can recommend you try, just don’t expect groundbreaking level design or enemy design. I’d say around a 2.7-2.8 for this one.
