im a BIG fan of the old style of maps, the chunky, crispy, edgy style like found in the old games Thief, Rune, Quake etc.
I currently use Trenchbroom for all my needs and make or addapt free fitting Textures down to less resolution. But today (while trying to get qbsp to work, dear god) i discoverd what a WAD is. Soon i found this site and i fell in love with the textures here.
I tried the search, found the ToS and some posts, but none could awnser me if i could use the Textures in a future Commercial Project. I would imagine something like where i explicitly exclude any whatever claims a common commercial project would do or have over those resources as well as ofc add credits.
In " Licensing thoughts" found this:
“No claim of database rights or anything like that. Everyone shall copy, mirror, host this.”
And in this “spirit” i would too claim none over anything from those textures.
buuuut im not sure if it would be alright, so cant hurt to ask directly.
Those textures were not created by Quaddicted, we are just hosting them. So we cannot give you any kind of license for commercially using them.
Some are original creations, some are “rips” from other games or collections. You will have to look at all the individual license terms to check if they allow commercial use.
Lack of a license means that you can not commercially use them. If you did not know that, I highly recommend reading up on copyright laws.
The Licensing thoughts thread is not relevant to your plans. The line you quoted is about “database rights”, which is a specific term.
this clears up a lot for me. And it confirms my thought that it wouldnt be as easy as i hoped.

Yes, i am aware of that fact, it is why i am very carful before just blindly using any material from the webs.

I did look throu some of the zips and few had a readme and just some of those readmes even mentioned licensing or usage rights at all. Im afraid this is too uncertain for me.
