Unfortunately I am writing here to inform that prolific mapper Tronyn has passed away unexpectedly at age 42.
He was part of the Quake community for many years and has an ongoing project in the Stair of Grief, which can be transferred to individuals interested in the unfinished content.
I still have no idea how I will do that, and I’d finish it myself but my maps have always been sloppy and pretty much terrible.
Whaaat ? I just created my Quaddicted account. First msg I read is this sad news. I played so many Tronyn maps and stuff along the years. 42. That’s much much too young. Sending all my best thoughts to his family and friends. So tragic.
What the hell? How is this… Jesus Christ. My sincere condolences. Can someone confirm this? Maybe it’s some really-really dark ugly trolling? It better be unappropriate bad joke than reality
Yeah when I read this I couldn’t believe it. I really hope this isn’t some kind of joke, because that news is pretty shocking. But as Alex said; Rest in Peace if it is true.
So sorry you have lost your brother @Whitefish. My condolences to you and your family.
Thank you for letting us know. His work was well-loved, and it may not be much solace, but he will live on through his work for a long time after his passing.
This is just awful. I can only hope people close to him stay strong.
I would be interested in the unfinished content if you don’t mind, but there is no way I can finish it myself.
I can’t believe this, I learned of the news from the dumptruck retrojam video. I was working with him on Mjolnir and just talked to hm recently. Not my business, but I still can’t help but wonder HOW.
I DO know that he was interested in a Mjolnir mapjam once the mod was fully completed. My episodes are done save for mapscrool openings for the new episode I have… his finale maps are the biggest (literally and figuratively) thing that needs completion.
It’s a damn shame, way too soon. I’m sorry, Whitefish. May he RIP.
So sad to hear this.
Tronyn was one of the first people I was in contact with in the Quake community. He was the first person to playtest Contract Revoked back in 2000, and became its first fan. He was always very encouraging of my mapping, and represented the best of the community with his enthusiasm for collaboration.
Tronyn was a fan of the epic and the arcane and the long history of spooky stories, and in that, although I didn’t know him personally, I felt he was more than a fellow mapper, he was a kindred spirit. And he was right: I should have made those beams wider!
A fine mind, and a good person. He will be missed.
My condolences to his family and friends, his work and contributions are and will be immortalized within the community, sorry for your loss and all of those that met him… hugs and best wishes to all of you.
It is strange how personal can be a loss of someone I have personally never met. Sincere condolences to his family and to all friends.
I still remember these names that represented the corner stones of Q1 community back than in early 2000s - Tronyn, Tyrann, Necros, [kona], Vondur, Kell…
